A Rare Panamint Baby cradle basket

Item#: 99-3

This Rare Panamint cradle was woven by Mamie Joaquin Button c.1943. It is fashioned from a symmetrically branched sapling which extends to a sharp point beyond the cradle base so that it can be inserted into the ground, holding the baby upright off the ground while the mother works. The main structure is held together using sinew lashings. The sun bonnet has red and blue yarn woven in and at each end is a dangle of beads and seeds. An old leather strap for carrying is attached. From the Eva Slater Collection.
